Tangent are somewhat retro. One of their main product lines is to produce separate mini based audio equipment. The Japanese were doing this in the late 1980's & 1990's... The difference is Tangent is Danish and their products are not the sleek, (somewhat) light weight, super smooth, Christmas Trees that were made then. They are solid, fairly minimalist, very slightly clunky (in a nostalgic way) and back to basics equipment harking back to yesteryear. Thing is, although the concept is rather strange in this day & age, it works! I have a couple of pieces of their equipment and they feel heavy for their size and well made. It's the sort of thing that perhaps only the Danish can pull off, a bit like Bang & Olufsen in the 1970s. Better still, unlike the Mini systems of yore, you can use each separately or together. They are pieces in their own right. The CD II is certainly minimalistic in that it has no display. I prefer it that way and have always opted for display off on CD players in the past if at all possible. Personally I dislike the fact I can tell when music is going to end. This sounds a bit Old School, but it's done for a reason. There is a school of thought that early DACS sound more natural than the latest. Certainly that was the conversation in a high end dealer I visited earlier this year. However with an Optical Out you can always add the latest & greatest or your preferred DAC, if required. Tangent do their own matching dedicated Tangent DAC II as well. This is an unused item which I purchased with grand plans a couple of years ago. As you would expect it is in new condition. It comes with the original box as shown. All the photos are of the actual item except for the last one which is stock for information. Note: Unfortunately as a private individual I cannot provide any warranty for this item. For that you buy from an authorised dealer and pay full price.
