RARE Vintage Cambridge SoundWorks Model Eleven Transportable Component Music System. Introduced in 1991, this system is a direct descendant of Henry Klosss KLH Model 11. The system comprises the BassCase, which acts as a suitcase and houses the woofer, two satellite speakers, an amplifier, two 15 cables for the satellites, and a 20 cable for the BassCase. Dimensions of BassCase:Overall weight: 21.1 lbs In excellent working order - tested. Some signs of wear as shown in photographs. The following is quoted from a review in Hi-Fi Classic: The BassCase measures 19-1/2x 16-1/2 x 6-1/4 inches and is made of a composite materialwith a 5/8-inch-thick rigid foam core and outer layers of high-strength,luggage-grade plastic. TheBassCase holds a single 7-inch, long-throw acoustic-suspension woofer. Internalstruts and a transverse rib add strength and form an airtight seal when thecase is closed with its four heavy-duty, toggle-locking latches. Internaldamping is supplied by a soft foam chosen for its acoustic properties. The foamhas cutouts for the systems two satellite speakers, its miniature amplifier,and a personal CD player or radio/cassette player. The supplied cables (two15-foot lengths for the satellites and a 20-foot length for the BassCase) wraparound the woofers magnet structure for transportation. Thereis an electronic crossover from the woofer to the satellites at 150 Hz. Eachsatellite has a 3-inch midbass/midrange driver and a 3/4-inch copolymer-dometweeter in a black abs plastic case with internal damping and stiffening.Dimensions are only 6-1/4 inches high, 4-1/4 inches wide, and 3-1/8 inchesdeep. The back of each case has a keyhole slot and a threaded insert formounting on a wall or stand. The black metal grille is not removable. Athree-channel amplifier powers the woofer and the two satellites. The frequencyresponse of each amplifier channel is shaped to optimize the performance of thespeaker it drives. This reduces the number of parts needed in the passivecrossover between drivers in the satellites (although, according to thespecifications, it is still a complex ten-element design) and is said to elicitextended bass response from a more efficient woofer than would otherwise bepossible for the same performance. Theamplifier measures 7 inches wide, 3 inches high, and 5-5/8 inches deep. Itstotal output is given as 36 watts, without specifying how this is divided amongthe speakers. The three high-level inputs (auxiliary, tape, and CD) are balancedwithin the amplifier for minimum noise pickup and are selected by a knob on thefront panel. Other knobs control volume, balance, bass, and treble (the lastthree are center-detented). Slide switches control power and mono/stereo mode,and there is a red led pilot light. Asbefits its portable status, the Model Eleven can operate from 115- or 230-voltAC power (50 or 60 Hz) or a 12-volt DC supply. The amplifier also provides a9-volt DC output for a portable CD or tape player. The system includes a 12-voltadaptor to power it from an automobile cigarette lighter, a stereo mini-plugadaptor, and wall-mounting hardware for the satellites. The speaker cables arefitted with polarized plugs at one end and stripped wire ends at the other;once connected properly to the speakers, correct attachment to the amplifier is assured.
