An Akai 4000 DS mk2 with original wooden sleeve. This is for service and restoration as it has not been used for over thirty years. In very good condition with only very light scratches and sigs of use. All switches and knobs present and all move freely if very clogged up with dirt. It comes with the two tape reels shown. No dents or excessively worn paint finish but it is very dirty as has been stored in the loft for decades. It has a lovely wood surround with all eight rubber feet. No split to the corners and edges good. We inspected the plug for safety and it is fine. We plugged it in and the V. U. meters light up. It will not play the tape or engage the head but it does make noise indicating the mechanism is working but very clogged up with dirt. This will need new belts and the internal mechanicals cleaned and lubricated a job for the very experienced or get a professional service. These are now quite sought after as this tape medium is making a big come back with many old machines now being restored. The machine is 41 cm W, 31 cm H and 18 cm D. Note it is very well made like all Japanese machines from this era and it weighs 11.8 Kg. Very dirty from decades of storage and lots of grime but normal for and original example from this era. All original inside. We will not clean it as this is how most customers seem to prefer them now. Will be well packed for delivery.

The front panels had some light marks so we replaced BOTH with brand new and original factory B&O replacements. We have also had the fabric fronts professionally re-covered in black fabric (the classic choice) so from the front they look absolutely brand new again. The only marks we could find were some to the rear black fins where they were placed against a wall (which have been touched in), plus a couple of light dusting swirls/marks to the top oval trim of one speaker which weve tried to photograph. All and any other marks are so light and/or tiny the camera simply wouldnt focus. Wed grade these a solid 8.5/10 overall and dont think youll find a better pair for the money. Please take a good look at the images to see just how nice these are. Overall we think youll be delighted with these at the price paid. They were just under £1,800 when new!! Functionality : Fully bench tested and in absolutely perfect working order, sounding great at all volumes.
