Vintage Empire 208 Turntable with 98 Tone Arm and Pickering XV15 Cartridge in need of a new stylus. This unit powers up and the platter spins. The motor is quiet and strong, and the start button still illuminates as it should. That is all the testing that could be performed on this turntable due to the lack of a needle. Cosmetically, there is finish wear on the plinth. Wood base is in good condition with a few small marks here and there. As with 99.9% of these turntables, there is no dust cover. I know less than nothing about this particular turntable, so please view the 16 pictures. The photos are the most important part of this description, and I have tried to take pictures from every angle including the bottom, so you know what youre getting. Due to age, a long period of non-use, and the inability to fully test, this turntable is offered for restoration and sold as is. This is in good used condition. It has been in the family for many years, but has not been used for quite some time. The plastic lid has some scratches etc and I have tried to include as many pictures as I can to give you an honest all round description This has an SME 3009 ARM complete with wires and weights and in good working order. Also a SHURE V15 cartridge/stylus Which as you will be aware are quite rare and valuable on their own It plugs in and turns on but it currently has the original connectors for the amp which we no longer have and they are out-dated, so we are unable to plug into our current amp. We have purchased a new connector and can have it replaced at the new owners request...but respect of all things vintage, we will leave in original condition. So, after five decades of collecting vinyl and Hi-Fi, the time has finally come to downsize. Over the next few months, with great reluctance, I will be gradually selling off my treasured collection of records, cds and hi-fi equipment. It will take a while !!!For instant sale is a superb example of the legendary GARRARD 401 TURNTABLE. It is set in an SME plinth with an original SME perspex lid and is fitted with an original SME arm with a SHURE V15 MARK 2 SUPERTRACK cartridge. Absolutely top quality. It also has an original Bulgin plug fitting as can be seen in the photos - true vintage kit but it could easily be upgraded if necessary. It has had a mini-service and a new phono and earth lead fitted. Everything is in really excellent condition with just a few blemishes. Even the lid only has a couple of marks. I have tried to show the main blemishes in the photos so please study them carefully to see the condition for yourself.Everything works and performs beautifully - even the strobe as you can see in the photos and the video. Please give the short video a listen. Unfortunately it does not come with an instruction manual or original box.If you really appreciate top quality hi-fi then this could be the deck for you. I think you would be hard-pressed to find a better example of such a classic, vintage piece of kit. Collection only Im afraid - I really dont want to risk it going through the post. THORENS TD 124 /II TURNTABLE, SME ARM & SHURE V15 TYPE II CARTRIDGE. Spare head with Shure V15 cartridge plus original SME head. The stylus is a new JICO one and has played no more than 8 sides of LP. Enamelling is generally immaculate except for one patch (difficult to photograph - see photo 3). The strobe light does not work. A new bulb (£28.00!) has been fitted and the existing components checked, but the lamp still does not come on. Wood plinth, but no lid. The SME arm is a delicate piece of equipment, so I would not pack this item for carrying. Personal pick up only, depending on distance. I am prepared to travel a reasonable distance to help. The deck has been mounted on a plinth for years, so I havent mounted it back into the box. I havent had any problems but it could probably use some new mounting bushes.
