These are fully working having been tidied up and tested and sound great. As well as looking seriously retro the Teledyne Acoustic Research AR18S is sought after as it was was used by several well known producers like Hugh Padgham ….artists for whom Padgham has produced or engineered include: Bee Gees David Bowie (Tonight) (1984) Kate Bush Clannad Phil Collins (Face Value, Hello, I Must Be Going!, No Jacket Required, ...But Seriously, Dance into the Light) Sheryl Crow Peter Gabriel (engineer, Peter Gabriel (1980 album)) Genesis (Abacab, Genesis, Invisible Touch) The Human League Elton John Madness (mixing, 1988) Mansun Paul McCartney McFly Mike + The Mechanics The Police (Ghost in the Machine, Synchronicity) Spandau Ballet Sting Tears for Fears Van der Graaf Generator Frank Zappa …and so these speakers have an enthusiastic following! As for this particular pair: - Original protective front grills are present. - Cabinets are better than average but not perfect and have screw holes on the rear for wall brackets as were apparently in a studio back in the day, plus light wear and tear to the finish - SEE PHOTOS (inc pic of the bottoms) - They have two AR 200001-1 (561 8051) woofers fitted, one had a small hole in the foam which I patched from the rear (with foam, see photo). Other than that the foams are good, they don’t need re-foaming (doing so adds wear to the cone each time….). They are the square magnet type, making them original early AR (later on AR apparently sold “pattern” replacement woofers with round magnets). - Replacement foam woofer TRIMS in black acoustic foam, see photo - One tweeter has a dent, the other has a small glued repair but sound fine, see photos. Vintage Acoustic Research AR18S HiFi Speakers - 60 W In full working order with new rubber surrounds. Can be connected with banana plugs. Some marks and scratches and the veneer is a little bit broken in some places but nothing major. - see pictures-The speaker surrounds are made of high-quality rubber, pliable and durable. The mid-range, high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, although very powerful. One of the best little speaker ever. Over 300 pairs of Acoustic Research Speakers restored and sold. The feedback received for these speakers will best describe them.Exactly as described, great neutral sound and excellent value for money. Probably need to spend well over a grand to get a modern equivalent. Just need to get a decent DAC now.Very nice speakers expertly packed by the seller.Excellent speakers. Incredible for age. Teledyne Acoustic Research AR18s hifi speakers in brown surrounds These are in near perfect condition. They were re-foamed about 4 years ago, however please note that the foam is beginning to release slightly from the cone in a couple of places. This does not seem to have effected their sound quality which has always been outstanding. Due to weight and fragility these are collect only please. I am also listing my NAD receiver, NAD CD player snd Linn LP12 turntable. Please contact me if interested.

Classic speakers from late 70’s early 80’s and becoming more popular today for studio monitoring. Lovely sounding natural bookshelf speakers too.These were studio favourites for Kate Bush and producer Hugh Padgham. (The Police, Peter Gabriel).Needs re-foaming. Cosmetic wear as pictured.

Still in original box. I dont think these have ever been used. The cabinets are in excellent condition and the speakers are not torn/ripped. HOWEVER....it does look like the foam surround is perishing due to the age. I havent connected these to my amp as I dont want to cause possible damage to the actual speakers. I am listing as spares/repairs as Im unsure of the functionality. I would guess these would be ideal for someone who wants them for the cabinets only? They are in great condition. Who knows the speakers may work perfect, but please bear in mind about the perishing foam. Acoustic Research AR8s, AR18s 8 Woofer 200037-0 complete, repairable, set needs re-foaming .Speaker set is actually working,and voice coils are in good shape. They are US made, has quality construction, uses heavy magnets and requires re-foaming. Foam ring materials are available online..

They are a wonderful neutral sounding speaker with beautiful highs and mids, has built up a cult status over the a superb nearfield monitor.
