Due to the increasing use of switching power supplies, the 50 Hz mains frequency is increasingly distorted. In addition to unexpected failures in all kinds of vital electronics (e.g. emergency generators), the “litter” on our mains also causes problems in our music installations. Amplifiers, turntables, CD players, etc. perform audibly better when they can work with a clean mains voltage. to keep “the digital misery” out of their hi-fi devices. A number of power supplies have been available for a few weeks to purify the power for your music system. The H.A.T. Clean Power Supply (CPS-2) is a device that almost completely removes the contamination. Above you can see an example of what comes “out of the wall” for most people. The top pendulum should represent a 50 Hertz sine wave. You can see that the peaks and valleys are almost flat. This distortion can be “read” on the line below. This is ideally flat. In the lower photo you can see that the distortion is dramatically less and that the peaks and valleys of the sinus are nicely rounded. This is how a 230 Volt 50 Hertz mains voltage should look like.
