Here is a very nice vintage Magnavox 15 Alnico speaker. It is in excellent condition and shows a DCR of 6.7 ohms.

Your $399 purchase buys 2 drivers (one pair). 1 pair of Jensen P15LF drivers from 1962. This is the successor to the P15LL driver used in the Imperial but with a new-for-Jensen cambric surround to lower the resonant frequency. If you can believe Jensen’s claims at the time, they have a resonant frequency of 16 Hz!This pair has the same internal Jensen code, the same date code and same cone codes. The cone code is the same as on every Jensen 15” Imperial driver made after about 1958 when Jensen changed from the familiar XXXX-X code they had used since the 1930’s. You’ll probably never find another pair of these so well matched Please note the “running” of the compound Jensen used to coat the cambric surround. This same situation is common in most Altec-Lansing drivers with the same surround. They seem less dried out than the similar type surround used by Electro-Voice. I’m not aware of any deleterious effects to the sound but the new owner is welcome to apply the special sauce of their own choosing. These have all been swept with a signal generator and play well from 30 Hz to the upper reaches of their passband. Perhaps they play strongly down to 16 Hz but I didn’t attempt to test them that low.Despite their excellent condition, these are 60 years old. They are offered for sale as “parts or not working” and are sold in as-is, as-pictured condition for parts, repair or restoration.Extra credit reading: In my research of these drivers I came across numerous mentions of them being used in K-horns in the early 1960s. 2 of these drivers came to me along with a pair of Klipsch K-500-5000 crossovers circa 1962. I also came across an interesting patent for the Raymon Dones Loudspeaker - also from 1962. Mr. Dones patent application details some P15LF stats including the 16 Hz resonant frequency. Mr. Dones also gets some ink as the inventor of the subwoofer - although the opinions of both Messrs. Bozak and Villchur may not have been solicited.

I recently had this speaker installed in one of my Fender Champ 5F1 builds. It sounds absolutely amazing, every bit as good as a stock original speaker, and a nearly identical production from Jensen as well, in the same era (late 50s). It has zero buzz, coil rub, or any other kind of undesirable noise. It sounds leagues better than any modern reproduction 6 speaker for a Champ, imho. Vintage Jensen RP-103S horn tweeter, removed from a tube console. Tweeter has been tested with music & a multi meter. It sounds great. It is in very good working condition for its age. Impedance is 16 ohms & DCR = 15.

Very early Jensen 12 Alnico Coaxial speaker. It is marked Radio Craftsman(which was a vintage USA audio manufacturer), but is clearly made by Jensen with Jensen manufacturing codes and numbers. This is the very early version, probably 1950s, which has a alnico horseshoe magnet for the tweeter driver, large round alnico magnet for the woofer section, tar filled 2 way crossover that is attached to the frame, 16 ohms. The tweeter and woofer section both work, but the woofer cone needs to be reconed/replaced. There are numerous small nicks and scratches, but is in original working condition, but will need repair/reconed/restored. It has the incomparable vintage Jensen design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, parts quality, efficiency and potential that only vintage Jensen speakers can offer. No damage or issues and the last two photos show a 14.0 and 14.6 d.c. ohm readings on my ohmmeter across the voice coils. The flange opening is about 7 across by 31/2 tall. Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintage Jensen Alnico magnet 3½ inch cone tweeter, USA-made in 1966. As you probably know, Chicago’s Jensen was a prolific speaker company from the 1940’s through the mid 1980’s, and was a leading OEM supplier to the domestic speaker industry in addition to manufacturing their own model speakers. Per the EIA-format date code on the side of the magnet covers, “605”, this tweeters was made by Jensen in the 5th week of 1966. It is identical to their model P35-VAH tweeters, but, being it was ordered by KN Knight for their speakers, it was marked with the OEM part number, AT3I.So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this classic Jensen high frequency driver should be yours. This Jensen tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. The thin paper cone is flawless and the voice coil dustcap is perfect as well. Plus, the galvanized steel basket is in great shape with no dings or noteworthy oxidation noted. And, the +/- terminals measure the industry-standard .205”, are marked for polarity, and I’ve left a few inches of input wire soldered to the terminals for the new owner’s convenience in splicing-in to their intended application. For being over 55 years old, this is an exceptionally well-preserved tweeter. Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds terrific—clear and strong with the warm vintage tone that makes Alnico magnet speakers so desirable today. Plus, I tested its DC resistance tested at 5.2?, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flange measure 3½” square, it stands roughly 2?” high, and the mounting pattern is the standard EIA-spec for U.S.-made 3½” drivers—2¾” adjacent / 4” diagonal, c-t-c.These is a nice find for someone that need a 3½” cone tweeters as a replacement in their 1960’s-70’s Jensen, Knight/KN, Heath, Magnavox, or many other U.S.-made vintage speakers.As pictured and described, this remarkable Jensen 3½” Alnico magnet tweeter is offered at a competitive price.
