Selling my Conrad Johnson LS-17 tube pre-amplifier. It is amazing sounding, I just only have one source now, so I don’t have the need for a preamplifier. It is all boxed up and ready to go. I bought it from TMR Audio, and it has worked flawlessly. Comes with Remote Control and will be double or triple boxed Shipped with FedEx insured signature required. One of the things I loved about this preamp is that it uses relays for volume control, which means the center image was perfectly centered, regardless of the volume as regular volume controls are generally not that accurate, the resistor volume on this is perfectly balanced. You can hear the click of the relays when you turn the volume up or down. It also has balanced control from the Remote Control which is amazing and rare in a pre-amplifier! From Stereophile The Conrad-Johnson Premier 17LS is a superb preamplifier, and one of the very best I have ever used. It did a beautiful job of reproducing the tonal richness and subtleties of live music. Its resolution of detail was excellent, and it re-created performers and their surrounding ambient environments with a three-dimensional, nearly holographic solidity. It might have been slightly soft at the frequency extremes and a bit sweeter than reality, and though its dynamics were precise and clean, they were perhaps a bit less powerful than those of some other units. But the reality was that, once the lights went down and the music came up, everything — strengths, weaknesses, audiophile criteria, reviewer nitpicking, even my long-held paradigms—it all vanished, leaving only the music. Conrad Johnson LP70S amplifier. I bought this amp from Spearit Sound many years ago. It has been used sparingly, I’m guessing in total for about 500-700 hours. I moved it in and out, rotating it with other amplifiers as I changed speakers. It worked especially well with Coincident Super Eclipse III and Klipsch RP600. Fairly well with Celestion SL700SE. Not at all well suited with the Magnepan .7. I liked it with the John Blue No. 3. But, I would say, with a good source it could be spectacular with the Coincident speakers. Based on that, my feeling is it likes efficient to medium efficiency speakers. Every time I would make a change in front of the amplifier the change was obvious. I have used several preamps, and the amp worked best with a tube preamp. There are some scuffs here and there, particularly underneath, mostly excellent on the top side where I decided to make sure the screws were all tight. One screw got slightly damaged and I quit that exercise. I’m selling off several items as I’m now up there in age and it’s not so easy to move heavy items around. But this is a really good amp. Teflon caps and I think Vishay resistors, and beautiful casework. I can’t guarantee the tubes except from having listened to the amp for several hours.
