Hi I am Topman511 and I specialise in Sansui Vintage Hifi. When I restore an amplifier I really go all the way to make sure the end result is 100% perfection. I adore these amplifiers because they sound so good and the build quality is fantastic. They are fantastic value for money. As you know these amplifier are 43+ years old and still sell on eBay for big bucks either as for part not working or even as fully working. I can assure you that at this age none will be working properly as there many other components not just capacitors that need to be replaced just due to age. Some seem to work but its more a ticking timebomb but once you compare to a fully restored unit the difference is clear in the sound. My rule for restoration is to keep to the original as far as possible, No transistor substitutions where possible but some components need to be replaced because they just go bad with age. If I have had to use transistors substitutions then I will clearly state this in the listing. Units are normally filthy inside and out so everything is washed and cleaned. Covers are rubbed down then primed and painted satin black only when needed. A lot of time and care has been put into this amplifier restore. For the money its a bargain as its like new again. I really enjoy restoring these old amplifiers giving them another 40+ years of life. Unrestored amps circuit boards are riddled with HR / Dry Joints and problems. I remove over 95% of all old solder connections and redo with leaded solder. I remove most components and then test and clean any oxidised legs to ensure perfect connectivity. All transistors are removed and tested for performance specifications. . All Electrolytic Capacitors are replaced with high quality Japanese brands such as Elna Silmic II, Nichicon, TDK, Panasonic and KEMET for the main PSU filter capacitors. All capacitors are of superior quality and exceed the originals replaced, Some ceramic capacitors are replace (TDK) Nasty component glue removed (using hot air) All Pots are cleaned with Servisol super10 / Deoxit d5 New Protection Relay Certain fuse resistors / bias resistors / diodes , new transistor heatsink paste A new power flex lead and black plug to top it off. Bias set to factory Spec ABOUT THIS AU517 This amplifier has been completely striped down and rebuilt with care. All PCB joints redone with quality leaded solder. Fantastic condition for age indicating it was well looked after by previous non smoking owner. The face and knobs of the amp are the best Ive seen to date. Great typical Sansui Sound This example is as close to a brand new AU-517 you can get making it one of the best examples around. I can assure complete reliability with this restoration. I will be listing many more Sansui amps vey soon such as more AU- 317s MK1 /2s, AU- 217MK2 AU517 and more AU717 all fully restored to like new again. A lot of time was spent restoring this beautiful amplifier. Hi everyone, I used to work in the Hi-Fi retail industry back, around, late 70s to early 80s, so I did a deal with my Boss to buy a complete Rack of Sansui components for myself!! The AU-517 has not been used now for around 10 years so I tried it recently and, no surprises, as it no longer works as all now dried-out!! I have other Vintage Hi-Fi so its probably best for me to sell the AU517 as I dont really have the time, or cash, to invest in getting it fixed. The main speaker terminals have been up-graded, as the original ones were just so poor for decent cables, however, as you will see from the photos, the original terminal is still available should you wish to return to as original. As very heavy, fragile, and valuable, so if it should get smashed -up via a courier, it would be lost forever and difficult to replace! The sale is only for the amp and the other photos are just for interest. Collection only from Guildford, Surrey UK. Thanks for looking.
