I own a dual 701 and a dual 1218 and this is far above them both. With the tonearm it looks the business, seems to work well with high and low compliance carts regardless of what people say. Definitely my main deck now. ***** I got mine from eBay 3 days ago. I was so disappointed when I unpacked it. The seller didnt pack it properly and the tonearm head was bent and the arm counterweight shaft was bent and the 33 1/3 speed was way off. To make the story short after fixing the 2 problems and calibrating the speed controls, sensor voltages, etc, this turntable performs as good as any turntable Ive had the pleasure even for just a few days to test drive around the block. This is the best looking turntable Ive ever seen and owned. I had been collecting turntables to try them out and sell them on Ebay when I get tired of them. Boy, I had been losing money on my quest for a good affordable turntable that I may find and like. ARs are my specialty they are good too but does not compare with most turntables when it comes in looks. Before this Luxman PD 277, my favorite and permanent resident turntable was a Sony PS-X55S. I love the Sonys low mass tonearm and its motorized tonearm for automatic operation and its very low or non existing howl/feedback. The Luxman is basically the same except its not quartz lock speed system. I dont mind adjusting the speed every now and then, its part of the fun playing vinyls. I really fell in love with my Luxman PD 277 instantly. It looks so beautiful, the tonearm is of a professional quality and my Stanton 681EEE still sounds as good if not better with it. It is now part of my family and my wife, daughter and even my 3 year old grandson likes the way it looks too. This table is for lazy people who wants their record handled gently automatically. ***** Excellent turntable which I have had since new many years ago. I have now changed from the Westrak MC cartridge to a MM from Ortofon? The top. The sound from this combination is superb, may not be quite up with the Linn LP12 but the auto function on the Lux with its separate motor, fine pitch/speed adjustment is great to have, adjustments can be easily made for different cartridges and although 30 years old now, the bearings s/n ratio etc are still as good as day purchased. If you get a chance to purchase a secondhand one of these to play vinyl records at 33/45 this will serve you well as a audiophile standard. You can play both all the current records now bring released as well as records of age, BUT if these havent been looked after or the stylus not changed when required, the damage to your record will be shown up by this Lux, it doesnt like poor quality recordings. ***** Compares very well (and looks better) than my old Rega P3, so very happy with purchase.
