Empire 2002 EE Cartridge w/ NOS Zafira 5584 Elliptical / (Line Contact?) Stylus This listing is for one used Empire 2002 EE cartridge. The cartridge was “checked” with an Ohmmeter & the results are posted in two of the photos. The readings are very close & have difference of less than 0.94%. The included stylus is a NOS Zafira 5584 replacement for an Empire S4000. It is either an elliptical or possibly a Line Contact. I have a Zafira/Tonar Excel spreadsheet which I came across on the web years ago. It lists all the styli by manufacture/model cartridge/stylus type/average cost. The Zafira 5584 is shown as equal to the Tonar 858/ES. It is the ONLY stylus listed under Empire that is shown with the ES descriptor, which is a Line Contact. All the others for Empire have either DS (diamond spherical), DE (diamond elliptical), or no descriptor. As shown in the 6th & 7th photos, it is priced at 32.00. Since it is priced between the S2000E/II (31.00) & the S2000E/III (34.00) styli (both original Empires have a .2 x .7 elliptical tip), I believe it is at least a .2 x .7 elliptical & possibly the same as the Tonar 858/ES - Line Contact. The tracking force is approximately ¾ ~ 1½ grams. Also included is a set of Nylon mounting hardware – 2 screws, 2 nuts, & 2 washers. An Empire stylus guard is included if you want to switch out the Zafira stylus guard. Since the cartridge was “checked” with an Ohmmeter, the stylus is NOS, & this combination has been visually checked, there are NO returns or refunds. All of the cartridge/stylus combinations I sell are sold AS IS - in working condition. I do not offer ANY type of refund, exchange, or return on these cartridge/stylus combinations. If you have an issue with sibilance, it probably means that the cartridge/stylus is not a good match for your tonearm. Not that there is anything defective with this cartridge or stylus. Note: The cantilever (the thin silver tube which the stylus tip is mounted to) is the fragile part of the stylus assembly. The stylus needs to be handled carefully. If the buyer breaks or bends the cantilever when un-packaging, inserting the stylus assembly into the cartridge, or handling the cartridge once the stylus is mounted, I will not be held responsible. This includes while mounting the cartridge to your headshell. It is best to mount your cartridge somewhat loosely first. Then install the stylus. Once the stylus is mounted into the cartridge, adjust the cartridge for the correct overhang for your particular turntable. If you are unfamiliar or inexperienced with installing, mounting, & adjusting cartridges/styli, please have an experienced professional do the installation for you.
