This is a great sounding all FET (Field Effect Transistor) preamp featuring switching for six-line level inputs including tape monitor. Circuit highlights include a low output impedance which acts as a buffer between the level controls and the amplifier interconnect cables, avoiding the high frequency filter effect inherent in a passive control. This preamp has a unique zero-response circuit which exploits the symmetrical performance of N and P channel field effect transistors to cancel distortion without resorting to negative response. A low impedance discrete DC regulator powers this circuit, for minimum ac impedance at all audio frequencies. FET's are used in Sonographe audio circuits because of their tube-like square law transfer functions, which exclude unmusical odd order distortions that typify bipolar transistor circuits. Up for auction I have a very nice Conrad Jhonson PV3 Stereo preamp in very good cosmetic condition. This preamp with the exception of a slight hum sounds very good and is quite outstanding for vintage unit.Not sure if the hum is normal for this type of preamp or if it might need some power supply caps replaced.So please be advised that this unit might need service..The preamp was slightly modified to include a automatic mute that delays signal for aprox. 60 seconds to eliminate thuds or surges at turn on.This is standard on more expensive Conrad Jhonson preamps such as the PV5 etc.This is high quality stereo preamp in the same league as Marantz Mcintosh etc. Shipping to the USA.
