They are made in Japan from the 70s and are in great condition considering their age. They sound amazing, with no undesirable noise coming through. The high range and mid range knobs work properly in certain positions, but not in others. The sound does not stop coming out, but the transition of mids and highs throughout the knobs is not smooth. The speakers work and sound fantastic in most knob positions, and the knobs can be disregarded when wired through a receiver, which can control the equalizer functions. AKAI SW157 ii Speakers with 12 Inch Woofers. Vintage speakers in excellent condition. Fabulous pair of vintage AKAI speakers from circa 1978/1979. Original owner bought brand new and had them for approx. 40 years. They came up for sale in around 2020 when the original owner passed away. I missed out purchasing them back then but managed to get my hands on them in December 2022 when they came up for sale again by the gentleman who beat me to the bid the first time around. They are immaculate bar two tiny ‘nics’, one on each cabinet which are shown in the pictures. One was already on when I purchased and the other miraculously just appeared….apparently! No one’s owned up to it yet anyway. They do not detract from the look of the speakers in any way. The only other mark is on one of the woofers, which we believe was done when the cap was glued on during manufacture; that’s the story that came with them, passed from the original seller. The grills are perfect and fit as they should. They are both original, no changeouts or modifications and they sound beautiful. A warm, full, yet crisp and rich sound, with deep bass; room filling. The reason for sale - they’re too big and don’t fit the room! Who knew that was a thing, speakers can be too big? ???? So they sadly (and very reluctantly), have to go.
