These woofers are from 1980, a time when many enthusiasts feel Klipsch was making their best speakers. These woofers are a direct replacement for Klipsch Heresy speakers, but are popular with build it yourself projects, too. Note, that the speakers will be bolted together, face to face, as seen in the last photo, for shipping. This helps ensure their safe arrival. Most of the reviews when they had a list of negatives about these speakers put--NONE. Klipsch is known for a bright and crisp high end and their horn loaded tweeters definitely put out a sound thats right there. These are tested at a frequency response of 54hz to 20,000hz which actually has more low end than many other smaller bookshelf speakers. The 6.5 inch woofer is tops in this size class where many others use a 5.25 inch. Awesome sound BUT if you want that bottom end, the 30hz to 80hz part, you need to add a subwoofer, especially for movie surround sound. These are still bookshelf size and the laws of physics apply, so they can not do the work of a large woofer and cabinet.The spec thats more important is the sensitivity. This pair rates 93db for 1 watt input. Ill save you the math and formulas but many similar speakers rate 88db at 1 watt. That means when your amp is hooked up to this pair and then another brand at the exact same volume number (same watts output), this pair sounds about 50% louder than the other. 10 db doubles perceived sound. These are AMAZING front speakers or main speakers for music and they were tested just to be sure. The manual is included (pdf) which is for the Synergy line (SB is for Synergy Bookshelf). Not that theres much to operating speakers BUT speaker placement is the biggest factor in their sound. These speakers will be packed with an inch of foam minimum on all sides and between them.
